March 31, 2017 MINNEAPOLIS, MN — This week, former Vice President Walter Mondale endorsed Cordelia Pierson for Minneapolis City Council in Ward 3.

“Corde Pierson has fought to protect our Mississippi professionally and as a community leader, and Ward 3 needs her leadership now,” said Mondale. “She has advocated for growth that gives back, and has helped build connections—trails, parks, natural areas—to help people and nature thrive. She has shown she can listen and find creative solutions. She is a great candidate, ready to work together to realize an inspiring vision—creating a just and sustainable city where all can thrive.”

“I am deeply honored that Vice President Mondale has endorsed me to serve our area on the Minneapolis City Council,” said Cordelia. “When I heard him speak in 2015 to the Humphrey Public Policy Fellows, he challenged each of us to live our values, and take risks to fight for equal rights and a healthy environment for all. I took that to heart in my decision to run to serve as an elected city council member. Our city will have to lead on environmental protection and sustainable growth, while national and state leadership is fragile or absent. I am prepared to provide that capable local leadership.”

Cordelia Pierson is an experienced environmental lawyer and community advocate. She currently serves as Executive Director for the Minnesota Environmental Fund, where she engages individuals and workplaces in supporting clean water and a healthy environment. A graduate of University of Minnesota Law School, Cordelia has dedicated the past two decades to improving the city’s health and quality of life.
